The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva, has announced that two significant cases are nearing completion in their vetting process. The first case involves a substantial theft of $450,000 from the Police Credit Union, coupled with allegations of misconduct by some senior members of the Fiji Police Force. These allegations were brought forward by Assistant Police Commissioner for Crime, Mesake Waqa, during a special general meeting of the Fiji Police Credit Union earlier this year. Tikoisuva noted that the matter was being investigated by one of the prosecution officers in her office.
Tikoisuva emphasized the importance of thoroughness, stating that they are currently conducting final checks to ensure consistency and accuracy in their findings. She confirmed that the report related to this case is expected to be finalized by next Friday, November 29.
In addition to the theft case, Tikoisuva stated that the report on a tragic Ferris wheel accident, which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old woman during the 2023 Fiji Showcase at the Vodafone Arena carpark in Suva, will also be released before the end of next week. She stressed the necessity of properly investigating these serious cases before making any further decisions, ensuring that they follow a rigorous vetting process before final approval.
These ongoing investigations highlight the commitment to accountability and transparency within the legal and law enforcement sectors in Fiji. As the reports are expected to be concluded soon, there is hope for justice for those affected by these incidents and for the integrity of the institutions involved.
Summary: Nancy Tikoisuva, Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, shared that two major cases—one concerning the theft from the Police Credit Union and another related to a fatal Ferris wheel accident—are in the final stages of vetting, with reports due for release by next Friday.
