The Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Nancy Tikoisuva, announced that they are nearing the completion of the vetting process for two significant cases. The first case involves the theft of $450,000 from the Police Credit Union. This case also includes serious allegations of abuse of office by certain senior members of the Fiji Police Force. These allegations were brought to light by Assistant Police Commissioner for Crime, Mesake Waqa, during a Special General meeting of the Fiji Police Credit Union earlier this year. Tikoisuva explained that one of the prosecution officers from her office has been handling this report.

“We are currently performing final checks as part of our vetting process,” said Ms. Tikoisuva. She emphasized the importance of consistency in the investigation and the need for multiple reviewers to ensure no details were overlooked. The completed report is expected to be ready by Friday, November 29.

In addition, Tikoisuva mentioned that the report regarding the Ferris wheel accident, which resulted in the tragic death of a 21-year-old woman during the 2023 Fiji Showcase at the Vodafone Arena car park in Suva, is also anticipated for release before next Friday. Tikoisuva remarked, “These are major cases that require thorough investigation before we make any further decisions.” She outlined the process: once investigations are finalized, the report will undergo additional vetting by another prosecutor before it is signed off by her.

With these cases under careful scrutiny, there is hope that justice will be served, and the investigations will strengthen community trust in the judicial system. The thoroughness of these proceedings reflects a commitment to accountability and transparency within law enforcement.
