Nancy Tikoisuva, the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, announced that her office is nearing the completion of the vetting process for two significant cases.

The first case involves an alleged theft of $450,000 from the Police Credit Union, alongside claims of abuse of office by certain senior members of the Fiji Police Force. These serious allegations were initially raised by Assistant Police Commissioner – Crime, Mesake Waqa, during a special meeting earlier this year. Tikoisuva confirmed that one of the prosecution officers at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is handling the report. She emphasized the importance of a thorough review process to ensure that no details are overlooked, noting that the report is expected to be finalized by next Friday, November 29.

In addition to this, she also mentioned that a report regarding a tragic Ferris wheel accident is anticipated to be released before the same date. This report pertains to the unfortunate incident where a 21-year-old woman fell from a Ferris wheel during the 2023 Fiji Showcase at the Vodafone Arena carpark in Suva. Ms. Tikoisuva stated that these cases are significant and must be investigated thoroughly before any decisions can be made. Following the conclusion of the investigations, the report will go through one more round of vetting by another prosecutor before it reaches her for final approval.

This careful and methodical approach by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions reflects a commitment to justice and accountability, ensuring that all aspects of these cases are meticulously examined before moving forward. There is hope that the outcomes of these investigations can bring closure to the families affected and restore public confidence in the institutions involved.

In summary, the Acting Director has indicated that two critical cases related to police misconduct and a tragic accident are currently undergoing final vetting, with reports expected to be released imminently. The commitment to thorough investigations demonstrates a dedication to transparency and justice.
