Major Fire Displaces 22 in Nasinu: What Happened?

A fire in Caubati, Nasinu, has left 22 individuals homeless after it destroyed two wooden houses on Tuesday, September 3. The National Fire Authority responded to an emergency call made at 09:59 am, with crews from Valelevu Fire Station, Suva Fire Station, and Nakasi Fire Station arriving swiftly at the scene.

The fire was brought under control by 11:12 am but inflicted over 95% structural damage to both residences. The first house was occupied by 17 people, while the second housed 5 individuals.

Authorities will conduct an investigation to uncover the fire’s cause. Puamau Sowane, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Authority, emphasized the significance of fire safety, advising homeowners to utilize appropriate building materials and engage licensed electricians to mitigate the risk of electrical faults, which are a common cause of residential fires.
