Major Drug Trade Player Nabbed in Lautoka

A man considered a significant figure in the local drug trade was apprehended last Friday by the Serious Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) of the Fiji Police Force in the Western Division.

Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime, Mesake Waqa, reported that the SOCU had been collecting intelligence on the 29-year-old suspect’s role in drug distribution. A coordinated raid at a residence in Lautoka led to the discovery of white crystals identified as methamphetamine, white powder confirmed to be cocaine, and dried leaves acknowledged as marijuana.

In addition to the drugs, officers seized smoking devices, a digital scale, a packing machine, and both local and foreign currencies believed to be linked to criminal activities. Alongside the 29-year-old, two other men and a 20-year-old woman were also taken into custody.

Waqa noted that during the execution of the search warrant, the prime suspect allegedly released his dog in an attempt to escape but was subsequently caught by police officers. He assured the community of the Fiji Police’s dedication to holding key drug distributors accountable, emphasizing that while such operations require time and an evidence-based approach, they are committed to achieving successful prosecutions.
