Major Drug Dealer Busted in Lautoka: What Else Was Found?

A man suspected to be a significant figure in the local drug trade was arrested last Friday by officers from the Fiji Police Force’s Serious Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) in the Western Division.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa reported that the SOCU had been collecting intelligence regarding the 29-year-old suspect’s role in drug distribution. A coordinated raid at a residence in Lautoka resulted in the discovery of white crystals identified as methamphetamine, white powder recognized as cocaine, and dried leaves identified as marijuana.

Additionally, authorities confiscated smoking devices, a digital weighing scale, a packaging machine, and both local and foreign currencies believed to originate from criminal activities. Along with the 29-year-old, two other men and a 20-year-old woman were also arrested.

ACP Waqa mentioned that during the search operation, the 29-year-old suspect reportedly released his dog and attempted to escape but was subsequently apprehended by the officers.

He emphasized that the Fiji Police is dedicated to bringing key players in the illicit drug trade to justice, noting the importance of a thorough evidence-based approach to ensure successful prosecutions.
