The Southern Division task force has carried out two significant raids in Sakoca, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of illegal substances. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that during the first operation, authorities raided the home of a primary suspect and discovered white substances believed to be methamphetamine. The successful search, supported by the Fiji Police Dog Unit and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, utilized K9 capabilities to locate not only the alleged drugs but also items suspected to have been stolen.
The suspect was promptly taken into custody as investigations are ongoing to further explore the circumstances surrounding the case. In a second raid in Sakoca, two men were arrested after the discovery of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, along with additional items believed to have been pilfered. Both men, in their 30s, are currently being held as investigations continue.
ACP Driu also noted that other arrests for unlawful possession have occurred in various locations including Sigatoka, Nadi, and Taveuni. These actions are part of a broader strategy by the Fiji Police Force to disrupt and dismantle the illicit drug network operating in the region. The police are encouraging the public to actively participate in reporting illegal activities by contacting Crime Stoppers at 919.
This proactive approach from law enforcement underscores their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. The collaboration with dog units shows a modern and effective tactic in the fight against drug-related crime. Community involvement remains crucial in maintaining a secure environment, and the police’s call to action affirms their willingness to work alongside citizens to combat illegal activities.
