Two individuals were taken into custody following a substantial seizure of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana on Cunningham Old Road yesterday afternoon.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu, law enforcement officials conducted a raid at the residence of the two suspects, which resulted in the confiscation of over 40 large parcels, more than 400 sachets, and a container of seeds, all believed to be associated with marijuana.
ACP Driu emphasized that the operation conducted in the Southern Division is a crucial step as the alleged drugs were reportedly intended for sale. Authorities are now investigating the origins of these substances and exploring potential links to criminal activities.
“During the lead-up to the festive season, we often witness an uptick in drug sales and distribution as individuals seek to generate income for holiday expenses. Our divisional operations, alongside our collaborative efforts with various stakeholders, will focus on disrupting and dismantling the drug networks in play,” ACP Driu stated.
Moreover, the police are seeking active support from community organizations, religious groups, and civil society to help enhance awareness about the detrimental effects of illicit drugs and support initiatives aimed at reducing supply through education.
The two detained suspects remain in custody, while the confiscated materials have been sent for thorough analysis.
This proactive operation not only aims to curb drug-related activities but also reflects a comprehensive community-centered approach in addressing the complexities of substance abuse, especially as the holiday season approaches. Increased collaboration with various community factions stands to create a healthier and safer environment for all.
