Two individuals were taken into custody following the discovery of numerous large parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana on Cunningham Old Road yesterday afternoon.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu stated that a raid at the suspects’ residence led to the confiscation of over 40 sizable parcels, 400 sachets, and a bottle of seeds, all believed to contain marijuana. This operation, conducted within the Southern Division, is deemed crucial, as the intercepted illegal substances were anticipated for sale. Authorities are investigating the origins of these drugs, as well as uncovering potential connections to criminal activities.
With the festive season approaching, ACP Driu noted a common trend where drug sales and distributions increase as individuals seek financial means for celebrations. The police are coordinating with various stakeholders to disrupt and dismantle drug-selling networks in the community.
Additionally, the police are reaching out for assistance from community leaders, religious organizations, and civil society groups to implement proactive measures aimed at reducing the supply of illicit drugs through heightened awareness of their detrimental effects.
Both suspects remain in custody while the seized substances undergo analysis.
This initiative showcases a collaborative effort between law enforcement and community stakeholders, emphasizing a proactive approach to combating drug-related issues. Such unity is essential for fostering a safer environment, especially as the community prepares for the festive season.
