An image released by The Fiji Times shows a significant drug seizure at the Pacific Batteries factory in Wailada, Lami, where drugs believed to be methamphetamine were discovered. The authorities found 27 packets of the substance, estimated to weigh around 25 kilograms, concealed within vehicle batteries. Early reports indicated that the police were notified about the discovery this morning.

This incident follows a concerning trend of drug-related activities in Fiji, including recent major busts. Just days prior, police found approximately 20 kilograms of methamphetamine in another operation at the same facility. This series of events underscores the growing challenge of drug trafficking in the region, prompting the Fiji Police to ramp up their investigative efforts.

The police have expressed a commitment to tackling drug-related crimes, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in reporting suspicious activities. Earlier this year, law enforcement actions led to significant seizures, including a notable haul of over 15 cartons of suspected methamphetamine intercepted at a courier office in Nadi. These events indicate not only a rise in drug trafficking but also reflect the ongoing efforts by police to combat this pressing issue.

As investigations at the Pacific Batteries site continue, the community remains hopeful that a combination of effective law enforcement and public cooperation can lead to a reduction in drug-related crimes and foster a safer environment for all.
