Police in Fiji have successfully intercepted a significant amount of marijuana on a shipping vessel, leading to the arrest of a 31-year-old unemployed man from Kinoya for unlawful possession of illicit drugs. The individual arrived in Suva from an unnamed maritime island, carrying a bag that contained four parcels of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, alongside additional plastic-wrapped branches also suspected to be the drug.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, stated, “The above parcel was unclaimed. Our search on shipping vessels will continue in our efforts on eradicating drugs,” emphasizing the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and protect community safety. Driu expressed appreciation for the collaboration received from various stakeholders, which has been instrumental in these drug confiscations and arrests.

This recent drug bust follows other similar incidents at Port Mua-i-Walu, underlining the police’s proactive approach to addressing drug-related offenses. In prior operations, multiple individuals have been apprehended with suspected marijuana, showcasing a determined effort by the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Dog Detector Unit to maintain public safety and combat illegal drug activity.

Such continuous enforcement actions aim to deter illicit drug use and trafficking within the community. As these investigations unfold, there is hope that they will not only strengthen law enforcement but also foster greater awareness and vigilance among community members against drug-related issues.

In summary, the recent interception of marijuana at Suva wharf and the arrest of an individual underscore ongoing efforts by Fiji’s police to tackle drug trafficking, fostering a safer environment for all. The collaboration with community stakeholders is crucial in these operations, promoting safety and well-being across the nation.
