Authorities recently discovered over 2,000 marijuana plants in two separate raids conducted in the remote Malua Range of Nasikawa, Navosa. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by law enforcement to address both marijuana cultivation and the proliferation of harder drugs.
The raids were executed by the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID), following intelligence reports suggesting the existence of illegal marijuana farms in the region. Officers navigated difficult terrain, spending a night in the highlands to effectively locate and dismantle the plantations. At one site, law enforcement officials uprooted over 1,800 plants, while a second location yielded an additional 900 plants, with sizes ranging from 10 cm to 2.5 meters.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, underscored the importance of these operations, stating that the seizures play a pivotal role in disrupting the drug supply chain. He commended the community for their contributions, which have been instrumental in these discoveries and in making several arrests. ACP Driu encouraged anyone with information to reach out to the police, assuring that their identities will remain confidential.
This ongoing crackdown on drug cultivation represents a committed response to the challenges posed by illegal drugs in the community, highlighting the importance of public cooperation in creating a safer environment for all.
The police have provided several contact numbers for those wishing to share information regarding illegal drug activities, demonstrating a proactive approach to continue this crucial fight against drug-related crimes.
Overall, the successful operations reflect a hopeful advancement in the diligent efforts aimed at reducing drug proliferation and enhancing community safety.
