The Fiji Police Force has made significant strides in combating illegal drug cultivation, with recent operations in the Malua range of Navosa. Officers from the Western Division Serious Organised Crime Intelligence Department (SOCID) conducted two raids that resulted in the seizure of over 2,700 suspected marijuana plants.
Acting on intelligence regarding illicit drug farming, a dedicated team trekked through challenging terrain to reach the sites. They spent the night in the highlands to ensure the success of their operation. At one location, police discovered more than 1,800 plants, while a second site yielded an additional 900 plants, with heights ranging from 10 centimeters to an impressive 2.5 meters.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the importance of this seizure in disrupting the marijuana supply chain and targeting those involved in cultivation and distribution. He noted that there have been numerous arrests in recent weeks, with suspects now facing charges in court. ACP Driu praised the collaborative effort in sharing information, which has been crucial in not only this operation but also in previous raids.
This recent breakthrough by the Fiji Police highlights ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and address the challenges posed by organized crime. The community can view these actions positively, as they reinforce law enforcement’s commitment to tackling drug-related issues and promoting a safer environment for all.
