Fiji Bati winger Maika Sivo has been sidelined for the entire 2025 Betfred Super League season following a significant knee injury. The Leeds Rhinos announced that medical scans confirmed he has torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which necessitates surgical intervention.

The injury occurred during the first half of the Rhinos’ recent 22-4 victory against Wigan Warriors, which took place at AMT Headingley as part of Ash Handley’s testimonial match. Rhinos head coach Brad Aurthur expressed his concern for Sivo, stating, “Our first thoughts are with Maika, and we will all get around him and give him and his family our support.” He also reassured fans that the medical team would ensure Sivo receives the best treatment possible for a full recovery, noting Sivo’s strong character and determination.

Sporting Director Ian Blease described the news as a “major blow” to the team, highlighting the excitement around Sivo’s anticipated debut in the Super League after joining the Rhinos this year on a three-year contract from the NRL’s Parramatta Eels. Blease stated, “We were all excited to see what he could do in Super League in 2025, but we will just have to wait for that now.”

This situation raises concerns for the Rhinos’ roster as they will need to evaluate their options moving forward in light of Sivo’s absence. However, there’s hope that Sivo’s resilience will enable him to overcome this setback and eventually return to the field stronger than ever. The support from the club and fans will be essential during his recovery journey.
