The Parramatta Eels have officially announced the departure of Maika Sivo, with the winger released from the remaining years of his contract. Sivo, who hails from Fiji, has faced speculation regarding his future after a challenging 2024 season.
While he has maintained a strong record for scoring tries, concerns about his defensive play led to him being sidelined from the first-grade lineup at times during the season. As these issues have continued, the Eels have confirmed that Sivo is free to pursue opportunities with a new club, although his next destination is yet to be revealed.
Mark O’Neill, the general manager of football for the Eels, expressed gratitude towards Sivo, his partner, Korina, and their family, wishing them success in their future pursuits, both in rugby league and beyond.
Sivo concludes his time with the Eels having scored an impressive 104 tries in 115 games and has also represented Fiji in 12 Tests since joining the club in 2019. His exit follows that of another veteran, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, who was also released this off-season and has since signed with the Gold Coast Titans.
For the upcoming 2025 season, the Eels have secured the signings of Zac Lomax, and backs Joash Papalii and Jordan Samrani. Additionally, they are reportedly interested in acquiring Blake Wilson and Josh Addo-Carr as potential options for the wing.
