Mahogany Harvesting: Key Stakeholders Unite in Vanua Levu

Trustees from six mahogany plantations in Vanua Levu convened with representatives from the Ministry of Forestry, Fiji Mahogany Trust, Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, and the iTaukei Land Trust Board in Labasa to discuss important matters regarding harvesting operations.

The purpose of these consultations was to promote transparency and to engage with stakeholders ahead of the commencement of harvesting activities. Uraia Rainima, the Divisional Commissioner Northern, emphasized this as a significant development for landowners, connecting it to the Government’s National Development Plan.

Iowane Naiveli, Chairman of Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, underscored the necessity of good governance and the generation of revenue. The trustees represented plantations located in Navonu, Saqani, Seaqaqa, Dreketi, Korotari, and Wainunu.
