Mahogany Harvesting: Key Stakeholders Unite for Future Operations

Trustees from six mahogany plantations in Vanua Levu held a meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Forestry, the Fiji Mahogany Trust, the Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, and the iTaukei Land Trust Board in Labasa yesterday.

The purpose of the consultations was to promote transparency and engage stakeholders prior to the initiation of harvesting operations.

Uraia Rainima, the Divisional Commissioner Northern, emphasized the significance of this event for landowners and its connection to the Government’s National Development Plan.

Iowane Naiveli, Chairman of the Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, underscored the necessity of good governance and the generation of revenue.

The trustees represent plantations located in Navonu, Saqani, Seaqaqa, Dreketi, Korotari, and Wainunu.
