Mahogany Harvesting: Key Consultations for Vanua Levu Stakeholders

Trustees from six mahogany plantations located in Vanua Levu held a meeting in Labasa with representatives from the Ministry of Forestry, Fiji Mahogany Trust, Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, and the iTaukei Land Trust Board. The purpose of the consultations was to promote transparency and engage stakeholders ahead of the commencement of harvesting operations.

Uraia Rainima, the Divisional Commissioner for the Northern Division, emphasized the significance of this event for landowners and its connection to the Government’s National Development Plan. Iowane Naiveli, the Chairman of Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, also underlined the critical role of good governance and the generation of revenue.

The trustees present at the meeting represented the plantations in Navonu, Saqani, Seaqaqa, Dreketi, Korotari, and Wainunu.
