Macuata to host second home game in Lekutu after Labasa ground shortage

Macuata will play its second home game this Saturday, but not at their usual Labasa venue. Due to the unavailability of Fiji Rugby Union sanctioned grounds in Labasa, the clash will be staged in Lekutu, Bua.

The Macuata Rugby Union says nothing will dampen their spirit despite the venue change. “We’re calling on all our supporters to bind and support the team,” the union posted on social media, urging fans to back the squad. A bus will be provided for supporters, and officials encouraged everyone to “paint Lekutu in Macuata Red, bring the energy, and cheer our boys on to victory.” The union stressed unity and passion, noting that supporters play a big role in lifting the team.

On Saturday, the Macuata Under-20 side will meet Vatukoula at 1:00 PM, with the senior team taking the field at 3:00 PM.

Context and broader view
The move to Lekutu fits into Macuata’s broader push to grow rugby across the region. The MRU has spoken in the past about expanding the player pool with new zones and engaging fans through a more decentralized match schedule, including hosting games in venues beyond Labasa. This season has seen a focus on homegrown talent from areas around Macuata Central and Macuata South, as officials aim to build a stronger, more connected rugby community and to raise the team’s profile in the Skipper Cup and beyond.

What this means for fans and community
The venue change underscores the MRU’s commitment to bringing rugby to communities across Vanua Levu, while ensuring fans still have a chance to rally behind their team. With transport arranged and a strong call for turnout, supporters in Lekutu and surrounding areas will get a chance to witness Macuata in action and help drive the team toward victory.

Macuata’s second home game of the season will be played in Lekutu due to Labasa ground unavailability, with Under-20 at 1 PM and the senior match at 3 PM. The club is rallying fans with bus transport and a call to flood Lekutu in Macuata Red, reflecting a broader MRU effort to grow rugby through local talent development and community engagement.
