The Macuata men’s rugby team is setting ambitious goals for the upcoming 2025 season. In an interview with SUNsports, vice-president Jioji Vuakaca expressed confidence in the team’s potential to win against any opponent. Reflecting on the previous season, Vuakaca noted the challenges they faced to avoid relegation from the Skipper Cup, particularly their hard-fought victory against Tailevu at Labasa’s Subrail Park.
Looking ahead, the team’s focus is on consistent performance in the Skipper Cup, with aspirations for a perfect home record to lay a solid foundation for success. Vuakaca highlighted the competitiveness of the Macuata Rugby Union club competition, which has helped identify players now included in the extended squad. He emphasized that last year’s performance demonstrated their capability to compete with the stronger teams.
To prepare adequately for the new season, the pre-season is deemed critical, and Vuakaca advised players to maintain a healthy diet, particularly during the festive season. Additionally, the Macuata women’s rugby team is also aiming high, with the goal of winning the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup next season after their recent semi-final exit against Kadavu.
Overall, the determination and proactive strategies outlined by the Macuata rugby teams foster a positive outlook for their future endeavors in the upcoming season. This commitment to improving and competing at higher levels is a testament to their dedication and resilience in the sport.
