The Macuata men’s rugby team is gearing up for the 2025 season with ambitious goals. In an interview with SUNsports on Wednesday, the vice-president of the Macuata Rugby Union, Jioji Vuakaca, expressed the team’s confidence in their ability to compete effectively against any opponent.

Vuakaca highlighted the challenges faced in the current season, including a fight to avoid relegation from the Skipper Cup, particularly after a significant victory against Tailevu at Labasa’s Subrail Park. With next season approaching, the team is focused on delivering consistent performances and aims to achieve an unblemished home record, which they believe will set the foundation for a successful campaign.

The competitive nature of the Macuata Rugby Union club competition has allowed for the emergence of talent, with several players being recognized and included in the extended player pool. Vuakaca noted that the players demonstrated their potential last season by challenging higher-ranked teams.

Preparation is key, and Vuakaca emphasized the importance of a strong pre-season as well as maintaining a proper diet during the festive season to ensure the players are ready to face the upcoming challenges.

In addition, the Macuata women’s rugby team is also setting its sights high, aspiring to clinch the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup next season after a valiant effort that saw them exit in the semi-finals against Kadavu.

This forward-thinking approach reflects the determination of both teams and fosters hope for a successful upcoming season as they aim to not only enhance their performances but also inspire the community with their resilience and passion for the sport.

In summary, both men’s and women’s teams are focused on achieving their goals for the next season, showing promise and dedication to their respective competitions.
