French President Emmanuel Macron recently expressed his gratitude to Fiji for its contribution to rugby, acknowledging the island nation’s remarkable players as a notable enhancement to the “French flair.” This appreciative remark was made during a meeting with Fijian Minister for Environment Mosese Bulitavu at the Ocean Conference in Nice, where the duo shared lighthearted moments discussing Fiji’s unique rugby style.

During their conversation, Macron also extended warm regards, or “loloma,” to the Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka. In addition to thanking Fiji for producing exceptionally talented rugby players, Macron appreciated the country’s hospitality, particularly for allowing the French Rugby Sevens team to train in Fiji ahead of the last Olympics. This collaboration highlights the affectionate ties between France and Fiji, transcending sports and emphasizing mutual respect and admiration.

Reflecting on the importance of sports in fostering international relations, it’s clear that Fiji’s contributions go beyond the rugby field; they serve as a bridgebuilding mechanism that unites nations in friendly competition and shared values.

The event underscores the ongoing appreciation between Fiji and France and the special role that sports, particularly rugby, plays in strengthening these diplomatic ties. The future looks bright for continued collaboration on multiple levels, including sports, culture, and shared advocacy for environmental preservation.
