Lynda Tabuya, the former Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, will learn her fate within the People’s Alliance (PA) party in the next 21 days following a meeting of the party’s executive committee. This gathering took place at the party headquarters in Suva to formalize her disciplinary hearing.

Tabuya is facing her second disciplinary review after earlier allegations of involvement in a sex and drug scandal with another minister led to her removal as deputy leader back in February. The PA had previously stated that these allegations posed “potentially irreparable damage” to the party’s reputation.

Her current troubles are related to a leaked explicit video that surfaced on Christmas Eve, which she has confirmed is genuine. Tabuya explained that the video was meant for her ex-husband, Robert Semaan, from whom she divorced in 2016, as outlined in a FICAC investigation. Following the video’s release, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka dismissed her from her ministerial post on December 26. Rabuka participated in the recent executive committee meeting virtually from Savusavu.

Regarding the disciplinary process, PA General Secretary Sila Balawa mentioned that it will be conducted in line with the party’s constitution, ensuring an independent and discreet approach. The disciplinary committee has a three-week window to conclude its findings and recommendations. Tabuya will be allowed to present her perspective during this process, emphasizing the party’s commitment to a fair hearing.

While this situation poses challenges for Ms. Tabuya and the PA party, it also highlights the importance of due process in addressing allegations, facilitating an environment where all voices can be heard.

In summary, Lynda Tabuya is undergoing a disciplinary review in the People’s Alliance party following significant controversies, with a decision expected in 21 days. The PA emphasizes a fair approach to the proceedings, showcasing their procedural integrity.
