Lynda Tabuya will continue her affiliation with the Peoples Alliance Party, as confirmed by the party’s General Secretary, Sila Balawa. This decision follows the completion of internal disciplinary hearings regarding a video that surfaced on social media, which showed Ms. Tabuya dancing inappropriately.

Mr. Balawa stated that the party concluded that the video was not intentionally published by Tabuya and that she did not aim to bring disrepute to the party. He emphasized the importance of public figures understanding that their personal lives are often subject to public scrutiny and urged leaders to exercise caution in their personal conduct.

Ms. Tabuya has claimed that the video was maliciously distributed to tarnish her reputation and has expressed profound regret over the incident. She has apologized in writing to the party and its members while committing to safeguarding against repeat occurrences. Furthermore, she reported the matter to the police, asserting that she is a victim of cybercrime and a serious invasion of her privacy.

The party has acknowledged the police report, expressing confidence in law enforcement’s ability to address the situation appropriately. In a show of support for second chances and reconciliation, the party has decided that Ms. Tabuya will remain a Member of Parliament. However, her position in the cabinet will be determined by the Prime Minister, with the party noting her previous achievements as a minister and her longstanding service to both the Party and the public.

This situation highlights the complexities public figures face in the digital age, where personal actions can rapidly become public controversies. The party’s resolution demonstrates a commitment to support its members while navigating the challenges of privacy in a highly visible role.
