Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited has initiated an ambitious multi-million-dollar tourism project in Korovatu, Labasa. The location, which offers views of Mali Island and Malau, was recently visited by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications, Manoa Kamikamica.

The project’s managing director, Ma Xianlin, a tourism developer from China, purchased the 151-acre site after first visiting Fiji as a tourist in 2018. In 2022, he made the investment and expressed gratitude to Investment Fiji for their support.

“We have invested approximately $5 million in the initial phases, which include site upgrades in preparation for a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, mini cable car, and scenic mountain steps, along with other tourism-related developments designed to create vibrant activities,” Mr. Xianlin stated. The project is expected to unfold in stages over the next five years.

During his visit, Mr. Kamikamica praised the progress made so far, noting the exceptional views offered at the elevated location, which would enhance the experience for visitors and residents alike. He expressed optimism that the people of the North would soon enjoy a lifestyle enriched by new tourism attractions. The Minister encouraged Mr. Xianlin to reach out to the Government and his ministry for any further assistance.

This initiative not only signifies a substantial investment in the local economy but promises to create new opportunities for employment and tourism in Vanua Levu, ultimately enhancing the overall experience for both tourists and locals.

With the ongoing development, it is hopeful that this project will bolster Fiji’s tourism sector, drawing more visitors to the region and inspiring similar investments in the future.
