PROUDS, a prominent family-owned luxury retail chain, has invested approximately $500,000 to launch a new outlet in the Damodar City Complex located in Labasa. Reshmi Singh, the general manager of Prouds, mentioned that the outlet currently employs five staff members, three of whom are local residents of Labasa who previously worked at other Prouds locations.
Singh expressed the company’s commitment to growing its local workforce, stating, “We’re looking to expand our team with local talent to help us serve the community even better. We are looking to hire two more staff to make it seven.” The decision to establish an outlet in Labasa was influenced by public demand, and it took two months to complete the setup.
Sangeeta, the shop’s first customer, remarked on the convenience that the new outlet brings to the community, eliminating the need to travel to Suva for their favorite branded products. “We now have access to a variety of quality products, including jewellery, fragrances, cosmetics, and fashion accessories, all available under one roof,” he noted. Sangeeta also complimented the store, stating it meets international standards and is comparable to an outlet in Nadi.
The new store is situated adjacent to Lunch Box and the food court within the Damodar City Labasa, highlighting the growing retail landscape in the area.
This expansion not only enhances shopping convenience for the local community but also signifies Prouds’ commitment to investing in local economies and creating jobs. As businesses like Prouds continue to evolve, they contribute to the overall growth and development of the retail sector in Fiji.
