Luxury Hangar Project Faces Setbacks Before Grand Opening

Sources indicate that it may take a ‘miracle’ for the multi-million-dollar hangar construction project at COMO Laucala Island to be completed within the next two months. However, once it is finished, the employment figures for the location are expected to rise.

The tourism operator’s project in Nadi has experienced several delays, with multiple “Coming Soon” timelines set due to its inconsistent construction progress. While the luxury lounge at Nadi International Airport has already opened, the hangar was initially slated to be completed by year-end.

The new hangar will provide a more streamlined experience for guests traveling to and from Kokomo Private Island. Guests arriving on international flights will continue to be greeted at the information desk in the arrivals area, and will be transferred directly to the luxury lounge, where they can access refreshments, entertainment, a family playroom, and shower facilities for post-flight relaxation.

Upon departure, guests will have the opportunity to use the luxury lounge while awaiting their connecting flights out of Fiji.

The hangar’s delay has been attributed in part to an issue with the wrong concrete mixture used on the connecting apron, which required excavation and replacement.

In 2019, COMO Laucala Island announced a $45 million luxury lounge and hangar facility. A stop order was placed on construction in 2022 but was lifted in 2023.

Laucala Island is known as a high-end destination frequented by notable individuals, as noted by Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who last year attributed delays to challenges in the investment sector.

COMO Laucala Island operates as a private resort in Fiji, featuring an airstrip for private aircraft and 25 luxurious villas. The property has three aircraft that have operated there for several years.
