A multi-million-dollar hangar project at COMO Laucala Island is facing delays, with sources indicating that it may take a “miracle” for the facility to open within the next two months. Once operational, the hangar is expected to boost employment opportunities at the island.
The tourism operator’s Nadi project has experienced numerous postponed opening dates due to its inconsistent construction timeline. While the luxury lounge at Nadi International Airport is currently operational, the hangar’s anticipated completion before year-end remains uncertain.
The new hangar at Nadi Airport aims to provide a smooth transition for guests traveling to and from Kokomo Private Island. Upon arrival, guests will be welcomed at the information desk in the arrivals hall, subsequently transported to the luxury lounge, where amenities such as refreshments, entertainment, a family playroom, and shower facilities will be available to help them refresh after long flights. During departure, guests will again benefit from the luxury lounge as they await their connecting flights from Fiji.
The construction delays were partly attributed to issues with the concrete mix used on the connecting apron, necessitating extensive repairs.
In 2019, COMO Laucala Island announced the construction of the $45 million luxury lounge and hangar facility. Construction encountered a stop order in 2022, but the order was lifted in 2023.
Laucala Island is known as a high-end destination frequented by affluent visitors, as noted by Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who previously mentioned that delays in the hangar’s development were due to bottlenecks in investor engagement.
COMO Laucala Island, a private resort in Fiji, features an airstrip for private jets and 25 luxurious villas. The property operates three aircraft, which have been in service for several years.
