A multi-million-dollar hangar construction project at COMO Laucala Island is unlikely to open in the next two months, according to sources close to the development. However, once completed, it is expected to boost employment in the area.
The tourism operator’s project in Nadi has experienced numerous delays and has been marked by several “Coming Soon” announcements due to its inconsistent construction timeline. Although the luxurious lounge at Nadi International Airport is operational, the hangar was originally slated to open by the end of the year.
The new hangar at Nadi Airport will provide a seamless transfer experience for guests traveling to and from Kokomo Private Island. Guests arriving on international flights will initially be welcomed at the information desk within the arrivals hall before being taken to the luxury lounge. Here, they can enjoy refreshments, entertainment, a family playroom, and shower facilities to relax after long flights. Departing guests will also have access to the lounge while waiting for their connecting flights out of Fiji.
The hangar’s delayed opening is attributed to a faulty mix of concrete that required replacement on the connecting apron.
Here’s a brief timeline of the project:
– 2019: Announcement of COMO Laucala Island’s $45 million luxury lounge and hangar facility.
– 2022: A stop order was issued, halting construction at the site.
– 2023: The stop order was lifted.
Laucala Island is known as a high-end destination attracting wealthy visitors, as noted by Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who previously indicated that the development delays were influenced by challenges within the investor landscape. COMO Laucala Island is a private resort in Fiji featuring an airstrip for private planes and 25 opulent villas, accommodating high-profile clientele. The tourism property has operated three aircraft for several years.
