The case involving TikToker Lui Bale Vuibureta, accused of insulting Lynda Tabuya’s modesty on social media, may soon be transferred to a lower court following remarks from Magistrate Lisiate Fotofili during a court appearance in Suva.
Vuibureta is facing allegations related to a live TikTok video he posted on September 1 in Nadi, during which he reportedly used vulgar language aimed at harming Tabuya. The ongoing case is currently being assessed by the High Court, which is determining if it has jurisdiction over the matter.
The prosecution has suggested that the case would be more appropriately handled in the lower court and has requested additional time to consider the next steps regarding the charges against Vuibureta.
In another development, Vuibureta stands accused of not complying with a directive to surrender his passport, continuing his social media activities, and failing to delete his TikTok account within the specified timeframe from October 30, 2025, to January 31, 2026. Consequently, he has been remanded in custody, with the next hearing scheduled for March 17.
This case underscores the ongoing scrutiny of social media conduct and the potential legal repercussions that can follow inappropriate online behavior.
