The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has taken decisive action by suspending the driving licenses of two individuals involved in a series of controversial videos on social media that portray dangerous behaviors on the road. Authority Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized that such actions exhibit a blatant disregard for road safety, traffic laws, and, most importantly, the safety of human life.
The individuals were summoned to a show cause proceeding as per Regulation 30 of the Land Transport (Driver) Regulations 2000, and their licenses were suspended due to the reckless conduct showcased in the videos that have circulated publicly. The LTA aims to send a clear message to all drivers that engaging in reckless behavior is unacceptable and poses a serious risk to others.
Rokosawa highlighted that while some may find these actions amusing or entertaining, the reality is that they endanger lives. “Reckless driving for personal gratification or fun is not only irresponsible but also utterly disgraceful,” he stated. He urged all road users—drivers, passengers, and pedestrians—to uphold road safety, reminding that everyone deserves to feel safe.
The Authority firmly believes that road safety is a shared responsibility, and actions that endanger the lives of others will not be tolerated. The collaboration between the LTA, Fiji Police Force, and various stakeholders aims to reinforce the message that every life on the road matters, urging individuals to reconsider any behavior that could lead to harm.
In a hopeful tone, this incident serves as a vital reminder for all road users to respect each other and prioritize safety above all. By raising awareness and promoting responsible driving, it is possible to foster a safer environment for everyone on the roads.
