In a heartwarming demonstration of community spirit, staff and management from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) recently paid a visit to St Christopher’s Home in Nakasi, where they brought joy and warmth to the children and caregivers. The LTA hosted a special dinner and distributed gifts, showcasing their dedication to corporate social responsibility and community engagement.
LTA chief executive Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized the challenges some of the children at St Christopher’s Home face daily. The Home provides a safe haven for children from various difficult backgrounds, including those who have been abandoned, neglected, or orphaned. “Each child carries a unique story—some marked by loss, others by hardship—but all united by the nurturing care they receive at the Home,” Rokosawa stated. He highlighted that the LTA’s visit was more than just an act of giving; it was about sharing in the children’s lives and reminding them of their worth in the community.
During the visit, LTA staff from the Valelevu Branch engaged in meaningful interactions with the children, singing carols and enjoying meals together. Rokosawa noted that this experience underscored the value of human connections and the significant impact that small acts of kindness can have.
“This visit was deeply meaningful for all of us at LTA. We recognize that as an organization entrusted with the safety and wellbeing of the public, our responsibility extends beyond our day-to-day operations. It’s about embodying compassion and steering Fiji safely—not just on the roads, but in the lives we touch through service and care,” he remarked.
The experience was moving for many staff members, who found it a humbling reminder of life’s simple joys and the importance of giving back. Those unable to attend the event contributed by helping to organize it, proving that generosity can manifest in various ways.
This engagement by the LTA is a beautiful example of how community outreach can touch lives and foster compassion during the holiday season, inspiring others to get involved and make a difference. The spirit of giving will undoubtedly resonate beyond this occasion, encouraging a culture of kindness and connection within the community.
