In a heartwarming display of holiday spirit, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) recently organized a visit to St Christopher’s Home in Nakasi, where staff and management filled the evening with joy, love, and generosity for the children and caregivers. This initiative is part of LTA’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and its focus on corporate social responsibility.
During the visit, LTA hosted a special dinner and distributed gifts to the children, many of whom come from challenging backgrounds including abandonment, neglect, and loss. LTA’s chief executive, Irimaia Rokosawa, emphasized the significance of such efforts, highlighting that each child has a unique story shaped by their experiences, yet they all experience a sense of belonging thanks to the nurturing environment of the Home.
“This visit was about more than just giving; it allowed us to connect with the children and show them that they are valued members of our community,” Rokosawa stated. The staff from the Valelevu Branch engaged in meaningful interactions, such as singing carols and sharing meals, which helped to strengthen the bonds formed during the visit.
Rokosawa reiterated the importance of human connections and how small acts of kindness can significantly impact the lives of others. He pointed out that LTA’s role extends beyond transportation safety; it also encompasses compassion and care for the community.
For many LTA staff members, participating in the event was a moving experience, serving as a reminder of life’s simple pleasures and the importance of giving back. Those who could not attend still supported the event through organizational efforts, exemplifying that generosity can extend far and wide.
This initiative underscores the power of compassion, especially during the festive season, offering a hopeful reminder of the positive change that can arise from community involvement.
