The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has launched a new initiative designed to assist motorists in settling their long-overdue traffic infringement fines through structured repayment plans. Scheduled to take effect on January 23, 2026, this initiative focuses on unpaid Traffic Infringement Notices issued between 2017 and 2022, which LTA identifies as key contributors to ongoing enforcement challenges and administrative backlogs.
Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized that this payment plan represents a practical pathway for compliance that also alleviates financial burdens for eligible customers. To qualify for the repayment arrangement, motorists are required to first clear any fines issued from January 1, 2023. The payment plan will only apply to the fines specified in the signed agreement, with any additional penalties needing to be settled outside of this arrangement.
Rokosawa issued a cautionary note stating that failure to adhere to the scheduled repayments will lead to the cancellation of the agreement. This initiative aims not only to reduce the number of unrecovered penalties but also to enhance enforcement efficiency and increase government revenue. The funds collected through this program are intended to be reinvested into road safety programs and transport services, ultimately contributing to safer roadways for all users.
This forward-thinking approach by the LTA reflects an understanding of the financial challenges many motorists face while also prioritizing effective traffic law enforcement and road safety.
