The Land Transport Authority has cancelled the driving licenses of eight individuals responsible for fatal accidents, underscoring its commitment to road safety. Among those affected was a 21-year-old truck driver involved in a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a 13-year-old student in Tacirua. This driver, who possessed an expired Learners Permit at the time, faces a five-year license suspension due to the seriousness of the accident.

LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized that this situation serves as a vital reminder to all drivers, regardless of their licensing status. He stressed the importance of adhering to driving regulations, warning that neglecting these rules endangers the lives of everyone on the roads.

Rokosawa declared a zero-tolerance policy toward reckless driving, asserting that immediate action against dangerous behavior is essential. He also highlighted that a shift in mindset and attitudes towards road safety is crucial, especially as the festive season approaches. Encouragingly, the current death toll on the roads stands at 60, which is a decline compared to 74 during the same period last year.

This decisive action from the LTA represents a significant step toward enhancing road safety and reducing fatalities, motivating all drivers to be more responsible. It reflects a growing awareness of road safety issues and encourages a collective effort to ensure safer road conditions for everyone.
