Spread the love

Two hearts united in love as Jean Baptiste Alain Marley Pascal, known fondly as JB, and Ateca Waqavolau exchanged vows in front of family and friends in a beautiful wedding ceremony. The couple tied the knot after first meeting over a year ago at the Radisson Blu Resort during a cocktail gathering hosted by the former French Ambassador when the French national men’s rugby team trained in preparation for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Originally from Corsica, France, JB works as a performance analyst for the French national 7s team, while Ateca serves as the environment and sustainability manager at Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, with maternal roots linked to Rakiraki in Ra.

Their romance blossomed across continents, starting as a long-distance relationship between Fiji and France. JB fondly reflected on a pivotal moment that solidified his feelings for Ateca, stating that she provided him with peace during a challenging time at work. On her part, Ateca described JB as the most patient person she has ever encountered, embodying the values she holds dear, particularly those instilled by her grandfather.

After ten months of dating, the couple began their wedding preparations. Encouraged by friends, Ateca overcame initial skepticism about a long-distance relationship. The love story culminated in a heartfelt proposal on Christmas morning when JB, dressed as Santa, surprised Ateca by proposing in front of family.

Despite unforeseen weather challenges that forced them to change their wedding venue to the Nadi Sports and Social Club, the couple’s day turned out to be a joyful celebration, free from the pressures of cultural formalities. They emphasized the significance of patience and unity throughout their journey, viewing their marriage as an important step grounded in commitment.

Remarkably, their wedding day was also significant as it coincided with the 30th wedding anniversary of JB’s parents. They expressed deep gratitude for the values and support provided by their families and friends that helped them navigate their love story.

The newlyweds plan to continue their long-distance relationship until they can live together permanently. In the meantime, they are enjoying their honeymoon in Australia, watching the Perth 7s, and looking ahead with hopes of moving to France in the near future.

This romantic celebration of love stands out not only for the couple’s commitment to each other but also for the way they embrace their diverse cultural backgrounds. Their journey highlights the importance of understanding, patience, and devotion in relationships, sending a hopeful message about love’s ability to transcend distances and cultural barriers.
