Leone Rotuisolia, a forward for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, and Georgia-Leigh Vele, an Olympian swimmer from Papua New Guinea, recently celebrated their marriage at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour. The wedding, which took place two weeks ago, was attended by around 200 guests, including fellow Drua players and swimmers both from Fiji and overseas.
Rotuisolia proposed to Vele last year during a family visit to Papua New Guinea, where he first sought her father’s blessing. He fondly recounted that he noticed her on social media and felt a connection due to their shared love of sports. After three years of dating, he expressed his commitment to spending his life with her and ensuring the approval of his mother.
Although their honeymoon was initially delayed due to Rotuisolia’s training camp in Kadavu, the couple finally set off for their trip the following Monday. Rotuisolia shared his appreciation for the beauty of Kadavu and enjoyed the local cuisine.
Georgia-Leigh Vele, born on the Gold Coast with a father from Papua New Guinea and an Australian mother, began competing for PNG at the age of 14 and has been a professional swimmer for over a decade. Vele reflected on their wedding day as perfect and intimate, emphasizing the importance of their relationship despite the challenges of their athletic commitments.
As they look forward to 2025, Rotuisolia mentioned the excitement around upcoming rugby seasons and how Vele’s permanent relocation to Nadi will positively impact their lives, especially regarding his training and diet.
