The London Marathon has set a new record by raising 73.5 million pounds ($98.28 million) for charity, according to race organizers. This achievement marks the event as the largest annual one-day fundraising occasion in the world.
The total collected exceeded the previous record of 66.4 million pounds established in 2019 during the 44th London Marathon, which took place on April 21 with over 53,000 runners participating.
In their final report, organizers announced the 73.5 million pounds raised after the 2024 event contributes to a cumulative total of over 1.3 billion pounds since the marathon’s inception in 1981.
Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, expressed gratitude to all participants who helped achieve this remarkable fundraising milestone for the many charities that provide vital services.
Additionally, Enthuse, the official online fundraising partner for the London Marathon, raised an impressive 30 million pounds through its platform.
The next London Marathon is scheduled for April 27.
