Lomaivuna Primary School gained valuable experience during their participation in the recent Get Into Rugby Festival held at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva. Team coach Maca Kaloudonuvuruna highlighted that one of the primary goals of attending the festival was to provide the young athletes with exposure to a broader rugby environment.

Kaloudonuvuruna expressed her aspiration for the team to experience this opportunity, especially since many of the players are accustomed to observing larger tournaments like Sevens and 15s. The approach taken by the team was anchored in the principles of discipline, respect, integrity, passion, and solidarity, collectively referred to as DRIPS. This philosophy aligns with the GIR Plus initiative aimed at fostering a holistic approach to sports in schools.

Furthermore, Kaloudonuvuruna shared insights about the team’s training regimen. She noted that since most of the players are in her class, they benefit from consistent training, often utilizing any available free time in the mornings to practice. This dedication reflects a commitment to their development and teamwork.

Overall, the participation of Lomaivuna Primary School at the festival not only provided essential exposure for the young athletes but also exemplified a strong commitment to sportsmanship and personal growth. Such initiatives can inspire more schools to offer their students similar opportunities, promoting physical activity and camaraderie through sports.

This article serves to remind us that grassroots programs like Get Into Rugby are crucial in nurturing the next generation of athletes, emphasizing the importance of exposure and training for young minds and bodies. The ongoing engagement of schools in such activities is crucial for building community ties and fostering future talent in sports.
