During his visit to the Ministry’s office in Levuka Town, Kuridrani emphasized the resilience displayed by staff but pointed out that unlocking the full potential of agricultural programs necessitates significant investment in field officers.
Kuridrani urged the government to prioritize supplying these officers with essential tools, transportation, and improved working conditions to effectively serve the maritime farming communities. He underscored the necessity for enhancements in accurate data collection and reporting, noting that logistical challenges in remote areas often hinder service delivery.
The Assistant Minister outlined the Ministry’s ambition to transition farmers from subsistence practices to commercial agriculture, laying out new initiatives that include smallholder development, orchard establishment, and mechanization. By tapping into the region’s rich potential, Kuridrani expressed hope that a collaborative effort could significantly transform agriculture for the benefit of all in the Lomaiviti group.
