Loganimasi’s Stellar Rise: A Coach’s Pride in 7s Rugby

After being included in the 23-member squad to compete against Japan in the final of the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup on Saturday, 7s utility player Ponipate Loganimasi made coach Osea Kolinisau proud. Kolinisau expressed his delight in Loganimasi’s performance, saying, “I’m happy to see him play.”

Loganimasi, a silver medallist from the Paris Olympic Games and a newcomer to 15s rugby, was a surprising inclusion in the FIJI Water Flying Fijians following Selesitino Ravutaumada’s injury during the tournament’s first round. He made a notable contribution by scoring two tries in the final, stepping in for Ilaisa Droasese for approximately 20 minutes.

Kolinisau shared his aspirations for the 7s players, stating, “All I want for the boys is that they progress in the sport.” He emphasized that he would be pleased regardless of whether Loganimasi decided to join any 15s club, asserting he would feel proud, adding, “There will be many Loganimasis.”
