Three of the four local football teams qualified for the 2024 Pacific Community Cup tournament are still seeking their first victory in this event. Lautoka is the only team among them to have previously emerged victorious in the tournament, having won it twice. Meanwhile, the other teams—Rewa, Labasa, and debutants Navua—are yet to claim this title.
As the Pacific Cup prepares to kick off in Lautoka next week, local teams are eager to make their presence felt on the field, facing stiff competition from four international squads hailing from New Zealand, Australia, and the USA.
The tournament will commence with an exciting match where IDC Champions Labasa will square off against the strong USA All-Stars at 4:30 PM. Navua, making its debut in this tournament, aims for a successful start as they take on the AuFFI All-Stars from Australia.
Rewa, recognized as the 2024 National League Champions and consistently performing well in local competitions, will be challenging the defending champions, Auckland All-Stars, in their opening match. Additionally, Lautoka, the champions of Fiji FACT and BOG, will face last year’s runner-up, Manukau All-Stars, in the final match of the opening day next Thursday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
The upcoming tournament is a great opportunity for the local teams to showcase their talents and possibly secure their first wins, bringing excitement to fans and the community. With the support of local supporters, these teams can look forward to performing at their best on this significant stage.
This event promises not only fierce competition but also a celebration of talent and sportsmanship, highlighting the growth of football in the region. The local teams have the potential to create memorable moments and possibly carve out their own legacies in this tournament.
