Three of the four local football teams that have qualified for the 2024 Pacific Community Cup tournament are still in search of their first victory. Lautoka stands out as the only team to have won the Pacific Cup tournament previously, with two titles under their belt. Meanwhile, Rewa, Labasa, and newcomers Navua are eager to make their mark in this year’s competition.
The tournament is set to take place in Lautoka starting next week, and local teams are ready to compete against four international teams from New Zealand, Australia, and the USA. The opening match features IDC Champions Labasa facing off against the formidable USA All-Stars at 4:30 PM.
Navua, making their debut in the tournament, will aim for a strong start as they go up against the AuFFI All-Stars from Australia. Rewa, recognized as the 2024 National League Champions and the most consistent team locally, is scheduled to clash with the defending champions, Auckland All-Stars. The day’s events will conclude with Lautoka, last year’s Fiji FACT and BOG Champions, taking on Manukau All-Stars, who were last year’s runners-up, in the final match at Churchill Park.
As the excitement builds for this tournament, there is a sense of hope for the local teams to showcase their talent and possibly secure victories, proving they can compete on an international level. The stage is set for an electrifying series of matches that could bring a bright spotlight to Fiji’s football prowess.
