Out of the four local football teams that have qualified for the 2024 Pacific Community Cup tournament, three are still seeking their first victory. Lautoka is the only team among them to have won the tournament, boasting two titles, while Rewa, Labasa, and newcomers Navua have yet to secure a win in this prestigious competition.
As the Pacific Cup prepares to take place in Lautoka next week, local teams aim to make a significant impact as they go up against four international squads from New Zealand, Australia, and the USA. The tournament promises thrilling encounters, starting with the opening match where IDC Champions Labasa will face off against the strong USA All-Stars at 4:30 PM.
Navua, making its debut in this tournament, looks to kick off its campaign on a high note against the AuFFI All-Stars from Australia. Meanwhile, Rewa, the 2024 National League Champions and a consistently high-performing team locally, will take on the reigning champions, Auckland All-Stars, in their opening encounter. Rounding out the first day’s matches, Lautoka, the Fiji FACT and BOG Champions, will challenge last year’s runner-up, Manukau All-Stars, in the final match of the day at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
With excitement building for this year’s tournament, fans can look forward to thrilling matches and the potential for local teams to shine on an international stage.
This tournament not only presents an opportunity for local teams to compete against international talent but also fosters community engagement and excitement around football. It serves as a platform for players to showcase their skills and potentially inspire the next generation of footballers in the region.
