Three of the four local football teams set to compete in the 2024 Pacific Community Cup tournament have yet to experience victory in this prestigious event. Lautoka stands out as the only local team with a winning history, having secured the Pacific Cup title twice. In contrast, Rewa, Labasa, and the newcomers Navua are still in search of their first triumph in the tournament.
The tournament will kick off next week in Lautoka, where the local teams aim to make a significant impact while facing off against four international teams from New Zealand, Australia, and the USA. The opening match features IDC Champions Labasa battling the formidable USA All-Stars at 4:30 PM.
Navua, making their debut in the tournament, is hopeful for a strong start as they come up against the AuFFI All-Stars from Australia. Meanwhile, the 2024 National League Champions, Rewa, will contest the defending champions, Auckland All-Stars, in their first match. Last but not least, the Fiji FACT and BOG Champions, Lautoka, will face last year’s runners-up, Manukau All-Stars, in the final match of the opening day, set to take place at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
This tournament not only showcases local talent but also provides a platform for these teams to grow and gain valuable experience. With anticipation building, football fans can look forward to an exciting display of skill and determination from all participating teams.
As the local clubs gear up to challenge themselves against formidable international opponents, there’s a sense of hope and excitement that this year’s Pacific Community Cup could serve as a turning point for them. The prospect of finally securing a victory in the tournament is enough to inspire higher performance levels and deeper community support.
