Local Talent Takes Charge: Westpac Fiji Appoints New Finance Head

Ravikash Chand has been appointed as the new Head of Finance for Westpac Fiji, succeeding Matthew Abbott, who significantly contributed to the bank’s financial leadership. This appointment is part of a trend in recent years where more local professionals are assuming key roles at Fiji’s oldest bank.

In 2021, the appointment of Shane Smith as Chief Executive marked a historic moment, as he became the first Fijian to hold this position since the bank’s establishment in 1901. Smith’s appointment highlights Westpac Fiji’s commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening its ties with the community. With extensive experience and a thorough understanding of local market dynamics, he is well-equipped to guide the bank towards sustained growth and innovation.

Earlier this year, Dinesh Kumar, another local, was named Head of Retail. Kumar brings over 15 years of financial sector experience, with 13 years spent in banking.

Smith emphasized that these leadership changes reflect Westpac’s dedication to continuity, local leadership, and maintaining its position at the forefront of financial excellence in Fiji. He expressed excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead for both staff and customers, reaffirming the bank’s commitment to providing outstanding banking services and contributing to Fiji’s economic development. Chand’s new role further signifies Westpac’s ongoing focus on leadership, innovation, and community engagement.
