Rayna Chand’s hard work and dedication throughout her schooling have culminated in an outstanding achievement, as she scored the highest marks in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division. The 13-year-old head girl of Wainikoro Public School in Macuata achieved an impressive total of 485 out of 500, marking a significant milestone for her school.

Rayna’s remarkable scores include 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, a perfect 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. She expressed gratitude to her parents, teachers, and head teacher for their support throughout her educational journey.

“I feel proud to be the first student at my school to score the highest marks in Vanua Levu,” she said. She attributes her success to her parents’ relentless efforts, with her father working as an electrician in Suva and her mother serving as an admin staff member at the school. Rayna shared that her study routine included late-night sessions and waking up at 4 a.m. for revision.

Aspiring to become a doctor, Rayna noted that while she faced challenges like any other student, she remained focused on her goals. Her mother, Shareeni Lal, expressed immense pride in Rayna’s accomplishments and plans to enroll her at Labasa College for her next phase of education.

Wainikoro Public School’s head teacher, Rajesh Kumar, shared his excitement about the school’s remarkable achievement, acknowledging the guidance and support from the Ministry of Education, particularly from divisional education officer Iliseva Volai and senior education officer Dharmendra Dayal.

“This is the first time we have achieved the highest mark in the North, and the school management is incredibly proud,” Mr. Kumar stated. Rayna was also recognized as the school’s dux for this year, further highlighting her academic excellence.

This story serves as a reminder of the impact that hard work, determination, and a support system can have on a student’s success. Rayna’s achievement not only sets a benchmark for her school but also inspires other students to strive for excellence in their studies. With her aspirations to become a doctor and her demonstrated ability to overcome challenges, Rayna holds great promise for the future.
