Rayna Chand, a dedicated student from Wainikoro Public School in Macuata, has made history by achieving the highest score in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division. The 13-year-old head girl attained an impressive total of 485 out of 500 marks, marking a significant accomplishment for her school.

This remarkable achievement includes standout scores across various subjects: 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. Rayna expressed her gratitude to her parents, teachers, and head teacher for their support.

“I’m proud to be the first student at my school to score the highest marks in Vanua Levu,” Rayna stated, highlighting her motivation came from wanting to make her parents proud. She acknowledged her father’s hard work as an electrician in Suva and her mother’s role as an admin staff member at her school, both of whom have tirelessly supported her academic pursuits.

Rayna mentioned her rigorous study habits, which included late-night study sessions and waking up at 4 a.m. for revision. Despite facing challenges, she remained focused on her goal and has consistently ranked first in her class since Year One. She aspires to become a doctor.

Her mother, Shareeni Lal, expressed her pride in Rayna and plans to enroll her in Labasa College for further studies. Additionally, Wainikoro Public School’s head teacher, Rajesh Kumar, commended the collaborative effort of the school and the support from the Ministry of Education, which helped facilitate this achievement. He noted that this is the first time the school has reached such a milestone and expressed pride in Rayna’s success.
