TAU Sports Limited has officially launched a new outlet at the MHCC complex in Suva, marking a significant step for the company as it navigates its post-COVID recovery. The proprietor, Awadei Veeriah Gnanarajah, announced a substantial investment of nearly $500,000 in the new store.

Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, which forced the closure of three previous outlets, Gnanarajah expressed pride in reaching this new milestone. “This reopening is the result of the progress made to get back on track and make it accessible for our customers,” he stated. The company is also considering opening an outlet in Nadi, aimed at serving western customers and potentially expanding its export market.

TAU Sports is a prominent provider of sportswear in Fiji, particularly during major events like the annual Sukuna Bowl competitions. Gnanarajah shared that the company generated over $100,000 in revenue through the Sukuna Bowl alone, highlighting the positive impact of this event on their business. As they prepare for next year’s back-to-school sales, he noted that the store offers a variety of school uniforms across the nation, with operating hours from 9 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week.

Investment Fiji’s CEO, Kamal Chetty, attended the opening and lauded the company’s growth, emphasizing the government’s support for local manufacturing businesses. “This adds value to the products made in Fiji,” he remarked, assuring that the nation would rally behind such local enterprises.

Founded in 2010, Tau Sports is a fully locally owned brand and part of a larger company portfolio run by Gnanarajah, specializing in customized sporting garments and merchandise.

This new outlet reflects resilience and adaptation in the face of adversity, showcasing a hopeful sign of recovery and growth in the local business landscape. As Tau Sports continues to provide quality sportswear to Fijians, it also reinforces the importance of supporting local businesses in revitalizing the nation’s economy.
