Raluve Tubuna Tadu Varuru emerged as the standout graduate at the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education graduation held yesterday. The 25-year-old, hailing from Nasinu Village in Cakaudrove, made an impressive mark as the sole Bachelor of Nursing Science graduate to receive five significant awards during the ceremony at Labasa’s Civic Centre.
Ms. Varuru was deeply emotional at the event, dedicating her accomplishments to her late grandmother and mentor, Latileta Lakai, who had raised her with the hope of seeing her and her twin sister graduate. “My grandmother always wished to see us, the twin sisters, graduate,” Ms. Varuru said through tears.
As the eldest of three siblings, Ms. Varuru received accolades for her outstanding performance, which included awards for Academic Excellence in Nursing Knowledge and Mental Health, Nursing Practice, Population Health, Personal Professional Development and Research, as well as Overall Academic Excellence. Her journey into the field of nursing began after she earned a Bachelor of Dietetics and Nutrition from Fiji National University in 2020. Inspired by a desire to care for those in need beyond an office setting, she chose to advance her education in nursing.
“I believe that if we have a dream and passion to do something productive, we should go for it,” she expressed. Ms. Varuru revealed that her love for reading played a significant role in her success.
Her parents, Titilia Leba, a preschool teacher, and Peter Earley, a caretaker in Cakaudrove, expressed immense pride in their daughter’s relentless determination. “We are proud and blessed to have a daughter like Varuru who never gives up,” they stated.
Ms. Varuru’s achievements serve as a powerful testament to her dedication and the unwavering support of her family. Her success not only honors her grandmother’s dream but also inspires aspiring nurses throughout Fiji.
